Gordon Hicken is the Assistant Professor of Percussion and Associate Director of Bands at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, TX and a member of the percussion faculty at the Interlochen Summer Arts Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. He received a Master of Music degree in 1997 and a Professional Studies diploma in 1999 from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the guidance of pianist Sergei Babayan. Camacho was born in Mexico City, and began his piano studies in that city at Escuela Superior de Música. His 2018 includes concerts in Cuba, Mexico, and a recording of Zyman's flute and piano second sonata. His recent release of Armengol, a CD with the 22 Cuban Dances of Mario Ruiz Armengol under Urtext Digital Classics label, has been received to great acclaim. 1 and Grieg's A-minor piano concerto with Oriente Symphony Orchestra and Tchaikovsky B-flat piano concerto with Holguin Symphony in Cuba. In 2009 he made his Carnegie Hall Debut Recital to great acclaim before a sold-out hall. Camacho is very active in chamber and collaborative music with singers and other instrumentalists. He has performed as soloist with several orchestras in the US, and toured as soloist with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, performing in more than fifteen cities in the USA and Canada. Martin Camacho has won eighteen competitions in Mexico, Cuba, and the United States, and has appeared as soloist with several orchestras in the United States, Cuba and Mexico, including Mexico’s State Orchestra and Bellas Artes Chamber Orchestra, and has performed extensively as a recitalist in the United States, Canada, Venezuela, Cuba, Japan, Norway, Italy, Croatia, Serbia and Mexico.
